TAKAUNGU is the oldest slave port along the coast and today consists of a Swahili coastal village 5 km off the Mombasa - Malindi road roughly 50kms from Mombasa town. There aren't very many houses in Takaungu and the beach is very private and deserted. The town is located above the Takaungu Creek. It is said that the explorer Krapf first landed on Takaungu beach.
