SHIMONI, located 80 kms south of Mombasa, is an old fishing village that got its name from the slave caves that are found in the village close to the shore. Today it is the launch pad for the dhows taking visitors out to Wasini Island and the Kisite Marine National Park. The Pemba Channel, a favourite location for deep sea fishing, is located off the coast of Shimoni.
