MTWAPA is situated 16 km from Mombasa town on the Mombasa - Malindi Road. A bridge connects the road over Mtwapa Creek, an inlet from the sea, where numerous jetties line the shore with anchord sail boats and motor boats. Waterfront houses on the creek are still fairly sparse. The creek renders Mtwapa its very own character of sailboats and deep sea fishing. The next big supermarket is a mere 7 minute drive to Bamburi and along the road there are a handful of restaurants - Italian, Chinese, Indian etc - and plenty of bars to choose from. The Moorings is Mtwapa's own local restaurant and hang-out.
