MERU, situated about 280 km north of Nairobi, lies only 5 miles north of the equator and at an altitude of 5000 feet. Meru is a business and agricultural centre for all of northern Kenya and has the appropriate infrastructure of hotels, shops and banks. It is also the base for visitors to the Meru National Park, a fabulous and beautiful forest reserve some 70 km away. Meru is known for its extensive Miraa (Khat) farming.
