Gigiri, an upmarket suburb of Nairobi adjacent to the 2,500 acre Karura Forest is home to the United Nations complex and numerous embassies including the US and Canadian embassies. It is a popular area for diplomats and Aid organization personnel. The residential areas are mostly villas with ample gardens. The Village Market, Nairobi's up-market shopping centre, is located 3 minutes west of the UN complex.
