EMBU, approximately 120 km from Nairobi and on the south eastern slopes of Mt Kenya, is home of the Embu peoples and the provincial headquarters of Eastern Province. The entire town is in beautiful purple bloom during the months of October and November each year due to the profusion of Jacaranda trees lining the streets. Embu is a commercial hub for the entire region. There are some good restaurants in Embu and of course the usual assortment of hotels and pubs. Embu has a small airstrip that serves the town.
